Girls’ Trip!

“Oh no he didn’t!”

Daisy was having a heated gossip session with Kismine. They met each other through a Rich Women’s Support Group (RWSG) after Kismine realized that the poor life isn’t as “free” (106) as she wanted it to be, and Daisy realized that maybe staying with a killer just wasn’t the way to go. It’s just so hard being so pure all the time, especially in this time of newly found freedom for women.

“So, you’re saying he kissed you after your family got blown up,” Daisy asked incredulously, “and you let him?!”

“Do you understand how hard it is living on a mountain of diamond? How am I going to experience inflation in my own household? He might’ve been cute because he was the first guy I’ve met since The Pit, but c’mon, just because his timing was off didn’t mean it wasn’t romantic,” responded Kismine defensively. “Oh, but Tom is really topping what John’s done, huh. Letting him kill another man? And staying with him? Has RWSG taught you nothing?!”

“Fine, I’ve been thinking of leaving him too,” admitted Daisy. “Honestly, it seemed heroic in the moment, but he’s stayed a coward ever since. And since your little diamond hotspot has been discovered, he’s not as rich as he used to be. I mean, all I really asked for was a safe, rich husband. But he not only beats me but has lost his money? I’ve seen enough. And you should too, living a poor life so willingly.” Kismine might’ve been poor and happy, but Daisy was rich and sad. It was hard coming to conclusions when they were both struggling in their own ways. But with the amount of times Daisy’s thoughts have strayed back to her past lover, along with Kismine’s insistence on leaving Tom, enough was enough.

“Fine! I’ll leave him. But before we leave, let’s max out Tom’s card one last time?”

“Like always!”

Later, under the care of RWSG, Daisy and Kismine ran away into the sunset together, ready to find Daisy a new, safe husband to leech off of. But now with RWSG’s help they feel empowered doing it. Hooray!

“Money is the anthem of success…
Tell me I’m your national anthem…
Money is the reason we exist
Everybody knows it, it's a fact (kiss, kiss)…
He said to be cool but, I'm already coolest…
"Um, do you think you'll buy me lots of diamonds?”…
It's a love story for the new age, for the sixth page
We're on a quick, sick rampage
Winin' and dinin', drinkin' and drivin'
Excessive buyin', overdose and dyin'
On our drugs, and our love, and our dreams, and our rage
Blurrin' the lines between real and the fake”

  1. This is the funniest post I’ve ever read. On a serious note, I love how you connected The Great Gatsby and “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz” through Daisy and Kismine. I think the ending (the Lana Del Rey song) is the cherry on top and ties the whole thing together.

  2. Your blog post is very interesting in a way that it takes 2 famous characters from 2 different pieces and creates a single story. Your creation of Rich Women’s Support Group (RWSG) made the blog interesting because it tied the two characters together. Your ending with the poem also interested me because it lead to a unique ending.

  3. Lol I was a bit surprised you did a crossover but this situation makes a lot of sense for these characters. I love the satirical tone you have (at least I hope it's satirical).

  4. I love how you chose to make a fan fiction out of two of Fitzgerald’s stories. It was really entertaining to read about how Daisy and Kismine might have gossiped if they knew each other. I also really enjoy the picture you included at the end it really carried the whole blog post.

  5. I really enjoyed how you intertwined the two characters and how you talked about their issues. I thought it was clever how you seemed to be making fun of them with their own innocence. On a side note I love Lana Del Rey.

  6. I love how you mixed in two different stories to write your fanfiction on. It was really funny to read and I love your Lana Del Ray reference at the end.

  7. I liked how you merged the two stories and connected Daisy and Kismine in their similar experiences as women

I love how you combined the two stories and how they would interact if they meet. I also like that when they do interact they complain about the males in their life and how the RWSG has shaped them as characters.
